P1 : Describe the different radio industry operations
research and populate this post explaining about the different types of radio stations, detailing their purpose. try to include any statistics you could find regarding listeners or revenue made.
public radio
this is a type of radio station which is funded by the licence fee or the government, meaning they cannot advertise or promote products. they also do not have any cash prize competitions as their main purpose is to create a product to entertain people rather than to make money. main examples of these kinds of stations are each BBC stations.
not for profit radio
these radio stations are developed in order to not make a profit and keep them minimal. they are made to entertain people who are in the same environment as they are mainly found in hospitals or universities as the content is tailored to this kind of people. they rely on their volunteers to keep the stations running.
commercial radio
these kinds of radio stations are made mainly to make money, as it is more of a business rather than a product, meaning these stations do contain advertisements. there are conglomerates such as Global who would own multiple different radio stations which are all national. examples can be Capital, or Heart.
community radio
community radio stations are a kind of non profit as it is simply local people producing their own programs and participating in the stations. they only cover a small geographical area, meaning it can cater for whole communities and different areas of interest. these communities may include different ethnic groups, as the stations would have listeners with a diverse mix of cultures and interests.
internet radio
also known as webcasting, internet radio isn't any specific station as it is more of a distribution service rather than the radio waves. it is always live instead of pre-recorded like some podcasts. it is available on a global scale meaning anyone with a connected device can listen.
regional radio
regional radio can be public or commercial radio stations. these stations are aimed at specific regions rather than targeting an audience. an example of these can be radio sheffield or TX1.
